Deirdre Shavon
is making a career out of a passion. The actress/model
first fell in love with the theatre as a young child.
Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia gave her
closeness to New York City and Broadway and fostered
her love for the theatre. She did several plays as
a child and continued her theatre education in college
by taking classes at the University of Pittsburgh
and surrounding institutions. During this time Deirdre
took a job at a talent agency. After being urged by
a coworker Deirdre had a comp card prepared and before
she knew it she had leapt head shot first into modeling.
In Pittsburgh,
work came quickly in the form of several runway shows
and print ads. With college now over choices had to
be made, and Deirdre made the choice to move to the
DC metro area. Knowing that she wanted to continue
her pursuit of acting/modeling she also knew that
she would have to start over again. Starting over
alone in a new city did prove to be a challenge; still
despite those difficulties work did come.
Deirdre continued
her theatre education in college by taking classes
at the University of Pittsburgh and surrounding schools.
It was at this time that Deirdre took a job at a talent
agency. Her supervisor urged her to have a comp
card done. Deirdre had originally planned to
ignore her supervisor until it occurred to her that
if she didn't try her life would never change.
Yet, if she tried and succeeded things would never
be the same again. With nothing to lose she
leaped head shot first into modeling.
Deirdre was
featured in several fashion magazine and commercial
ads. The ads were followed up by multiple runway shows
for Guess, Steve Madden, Levis, and Arden B. While
enjoying her success in modeling Deirdre knew that
there was more she wanted to attain. It was not long
before she began focusing her attention back to acting.
In an effort to widen her acting range she spent time
fine tuning her stunt car driving, and weapons training.
Deirdre also completed training for stunt work in
fighting and combat.
Acting truly
took off for her after meeting with an acting agency
in DC she landed the role of Miranda in Missy &
Miranda. She was cast opposite her now good friend
and colleague Kristine Kelly. The cast both filmed
and promoted at that year's Sundance Film Festival.
For the last
few years Deirdre has been casted in 14 independent
films including Signals a sci fi drama which premiered
at both the NY and LA film festivals. Winner Best
Action Feature Film at the LA film festival. Most
recently Deirdre will be featured in The Hatred, Psuedopsychotic,
Time Refugees and Phenomena which will be released
this year.
Deirdre is
still pursuing her career with the same passion and
drive to make something of herself for herself first.
She says that "I need to prove to myself that
I can succeed in this business. That is far more important
than proving it to anyone else."
Her determination
and focus has not gone without praise. Being chosen
for a project is a huge compliment to Deirdre. She
knows that while it means job well done, it also means
that the job is not done.
